Richard L. “Dick” Arthur, 78, of Coleman, died Tuesday October 10, 2023 in Clare as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 23, 1945 in Bangor Township, Bay County, the son of the late Rawleigh “Clifford” & Eva (Gillespie) Arthur. Dick married Connie L. Balzer, August 5, 1967 in Gladwin.
Dick loved to serve his family, friends, and country. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a handyman, mechanic, and overall repairman helping anyone that needed a hand with a project. He loved Connie dearly and took her out to dinner every day. He loved to fish and hunt, always telling stories of catching the biggest fish. Dick loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events and musical performances. Dick was a member of the Coleman Coffee Crew, sharing fellowship with his friends.Dick worked at Dow Chemical as an instrument repair journeyman for 35 years. He enjoyed the camaraderie that he built with his colleagues across Dow. He used this knowledge to serve others.
Survivors include his children: Rick & Karen Arthur of Coleman, Tami & Brian Frederick of Plainwell, Elizabeth Arthur of Midland, grandchildren: Carlee, Myles, Jayden, Alex, Jace, Camden, Jacqueline, Eli, Jenny, Judith, brothers: Rawleigh & Virginia Arthur of Coleman, Sam Arthur of Sanford, Charles & Kathy Arthur of Coleman, Ken & Debbie Arthur of Midland, sisters Sue Klouse of Coleman, Linda Crowl of Coleman many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his son Jason Lee Arthur, sister Pat Sheredy, brothers-in-law Tom Sheredy, Terry Klouse, LaVon Crowl, sister-in-law Judy Arthur.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Thursday October 19, 2023 at the Faith United Methodist Church, Coleman, with Rev. Lisa Kelley officiating. Burial will take place in the Warren Township Cemetery, Coleman. Friends may call at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and at the church on Thursday starting at 10 am until the time of services. Those who wish may direct contributions to the family or St. Jude Hospital.


Connie L. Arthur, 75, of Coleman died Tuesday October 10, 2023 in Clare, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born October 14, 1947 in Sage Township, Gladwin County, the daughter of the late Edwin & Mary Jane (Anger) Balzer. Connie L. Balzer married Richard L. Arthur, August 5, 1967 in Gladwin.
Connie was a fierce servant of God. She led church youth groups, bible studies, played organ, and loved to share a cup of coffee in christian fellowship with her friends. She took pride in her family. Connie loved Dick with her whole heart. They enjoyed daily trips to dinner and sporting events. She loved her children and she was so very proud of the christian families they raised. Connie’s greatest joy was giving to others, most of all to her ten grandchildren. She loved to attend their sporting events and musical performances.Connie worked for thirty-five years as a speech communications teacher at Northwood College, Delta College and at CMU. She loved to help students to reach their potential, encouraging them to shoot for the stars.
Survivors include her children: Rick & Karen Arthur of Coleman, Tami & Brian Frederick of Plainwell, Elizabeth Arthur of Midland, grandchildren: Carlee, Myles, Jayden, Alex, Jace, Camden, Jacqueline, Eli, Jenny, Judith, brothers: Raymond & Kathy Balzer of Tennessee, Robert & Lynda Balzer of Gladwin, Marvin & Marva Balzer of Gladwin, Ted & Vicki Balzer of Gladwin, sister Dorothy & Tony Miller of Colorado, many nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her son Jason Lee Arthur, sister Betty McColly and brother-in-law Richard McColly.
